Apply Now for the VectorByte training workshop on pipelines for vector trait and abundance data (May 2026)
Learn about using the VectorByte Databases – VecTraits and VecDyn – and analysis pipelines to answer cool questions! Apply now for the VectorByte training workshop at Virginia Tech, together with EEID, May 30-June 1, 2026!!
The VectorByte Initiative is hosting a training workshop from May 30-June 1, 2026, hosted by Virginia Tech on our campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. This workshop immediately precedes the 2026 EEID conference and will run concurrently with the EEID workshop (more EEID workshop info here).
The 3 day training workshop will introduce the VecTraits and VecDyn databases as well as simple analysis pipelines for both databases. The workshop will include training in data digitization and curation for both databases (including AI tools), and simple statistical and mathematical methods for analyzing trait and abundance data for disease vectors. Analysis will be primarily in the R programming language. This workshop is appropriate for participants who have working experience with R and beginning to intermediate statistical knowledge (e.g., ANOVA, hypothesis testing, linear regression).
Participation will be limited to around 20 early career scientists, primarily graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and practitioners with relevant experience (for example vector control professionals) and interest. Funding is available to support domestic travel, accommodation (including breakfast, and lunches during sessions) from May 30-June 1). There is no ‘fee’ to participate in the workshop. However, support does not extend to accommodation and registration for the EEID conference.)
In addition to the application form, applicants must provide:
a brief statement on why they wish to attend the workshop
a current CV (resume)
a letter of support from their immediate supervisor (indicating their approval for you to go, and how this would assist your project in particular).
